Green house building principles

Here are some fundamental principles to keep in mind when designing and constructing a green home:

Use sustainable materials

To build an eco-friendly home, it's essential to source sustainable materials. This includes wood from responsibly-managed forests, recycled materials, and other materials with minimal negative environmental impact.

Maximize energy efficiency

A green home should be designed to be as energy-efficient as possible. This means using energy-efficient appliances, installing energy-efficient lighting, using higher-grade insulation and weather-stripping to reduce air leakage, and using windows with a low thermal transmittance (U-value) to maximize indoor temperature control.

Use water-saving features

Installing water-saving features such as low-flow showerheads, water-saving toilets, and rainwater harvesting can help reduce water consumption.

Choose green building techniques

Building techniques such as green roofs, also known as living roofs, and passive solar designs are options when building a green home.

At 928 Construction, our mission is to help our clients build the sustainable green home of their dreams. We are ready to build your new home.

Zero Energy Homes

Zero Energy Homes are homes that produce as much energy as they consume, typically through renewable energy sources such as solar or wind. These homes are designed to be highly energy efficient and use innovative technologies, such as sensors, to monitor and optimize energy use. These homes are becoming increasingly popular as a way to reduce energy costs and lessen the impact on the environment.

Positive Energy Homes

Positive Energy Homes are homes that generate more energy through renewable sources than they use. They are designed to be self-sufficient, produce enough energy to power the home, and even feed excess energy back into the grid. Positive Energy Homes use a combination of renewable energy sources such as solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal systems, and energy storage systems to reduce energy consumption and generate renewable energy.

Passive Homes

Passive energy homes are designed to use natural energy sources and passive solar design to reduce energy consumption. These homes are designed to use the sun’s energy to heat the home in the winter and cool it in the summer while also utilizing natural ventilation to reduce the need for air conditioning. Passive energy homes also employ efficient insulation, windows, and other features to reduce energy losses.

LEED-Certified Homes

LEED-certified homes are homes certified by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. These homes meet high standards of energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and sustainable design. LEED-certified homes are designed to reduce the home’s environmental impact, save money on energy bills, and provide healthier indoor air quality.
